So the wonderful Chelsea Craft Fair is over for another year. Organisers Handmade in Britain put on a splendid event as usual – and of course Chelsea Old Town Hall is spectacular venue.
It was wonderful to meet so many designers and makers – I had fascinating conversations with my fellow stand holders about materials, methods and above all our passion for the handmade. Of course this was just as true of the visitors to the show. Chelsea patrons are very well informed and often creatives in their own right. It is certainly noticeable that the average Chelsea visitor has great taste and colour sense and I was often eyeing outfits (and in particular spectacles!) with envy.
A case in point was Anna, spotted sporting this great beret, complete with a rather unusual brooch trim (certainly the healthiest way to look cool with a cigarette). Anna used to work at Stephen Jones (one of my hat heroes) so as you might imagine we had lots to talk about!
My friend Karen also showed that she can rock a hat- here she is in the “Under Cover” fedora from the AW16 made to order range, with a little added faux fur trim:
I got back to Brighton late last night – so I now have a studio that needs a good tidy, and an order book that needs serious attention – but I would not have missed it for the world.
